About
EmailConfigCheck is a free, privacy-friendly tool for checking how a domain is set up to send and receive email. It inspects the DNS records behind email authentication and deliverability — SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MX, BIMI and MTA-STS — and explains, in plain language, what's configured well, what's risky, and how to improve it.
Every check is a live DNS-over-HTTPS lookup performed at the edge on Cloudflare's network. There are no accounts to create, and the domains you check aren't stored. A companion record builder helps you generate correct SPF, DMARC, BIMI and MTA-STS records to publish in your own DNS, and you can re-run the checker to confirm they're live.
The project exists because email authentication is easy to misconfigure and hard to debug, and because the tooling around it is often locked behind paywalls or sign-ups. The goal is to be fast, clear, and respectful of your privacy.
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what EmailConfigCheck (“the Service”) does — and mostly doesn't — collect when you use it. In short: we try to collect as little as possible.
- No accounts. You can use the Service without registering or providing personal information.
- The domains you check. Lookups you run are processed only to return results and are not stored or logged by us. Public DNS results may be cached at the edge for a short period (around 60 seconds) to improve performance for popular domains; that cache holds only the public records for a domain, nothing that identifies you.
- DNS resolution. To return results, the Service queries public DNS-over-HTTPS resolvers (such as Cloudflare and Google). Those providers receive the domain name being looked up and handle it under their own privacy policies — the same information any DNS resolver on the internet would see.
- The record builder. The builder runs entirely in your browser. Anything you type into it — domains, IP addresses, email addresses or URLs — stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.
- Cookies and analytics. The Service does not set tracking cookies and does not use cross-site or behavioural analytics to profile you.
- Hosting and security. The Service runs on Cloudflare, which may process request metadata (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the Service under its own privacy policy. We do not use that data to identify or profile you.
- Third-party links and images. Results may link to third-party sites, and when a domain publishes a BIMI logo your browser loads that image directly from the URL in the domain's DNS record — which reveals your browser's IP address to that host, as loading any image on the web does.
- Children. The Service is a technical tool not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
- Changes. We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
Terms of Use
By accessing or using EmailConfigCheck (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
- The Service. EmailConfigCheck provides informational tools for inspecting and generating email-related DNS records, free of charge and for your convenience.
- Informational only; no warranty. Results are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. DNS data can be cached, delayed, or change at any time, and lookups rely on third-party resolvers. We don't guarantee that results are accurate, complete, or current — don't rely on the Service as your sole source of truth for security-critical decisions; always confirm against your authoritative DNS.
- Acceptable use. You agree not to misuse the Service — including by overloading or disrupting it, using automated means to place an unreasonable load on it, circumventing rate limits or caching, or using it to facilitate attacks on, or unauthorised assessment of, domains you don't own or have permission to test.
- Intellectual property. The Service — including its software, design, and content — is proprietary and protected by applicable laws. No license to copy, modify, redistribute, or create derivative works is granted except as expressly permitted in writing, and the EmailConfigCheck name and branding may not be used without permission.
- Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, EmailConfigCheck and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
- Third-party content. The Service may link to third-party sites; we are not responsible for their content, services, or practices.
- Changes. We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
